Visual Studio Code is a freeware source-code editor made by Microsoft for Windows, Linux and macOS.

It’s taken over as one of the most popular editors. With a recent announcement that atom.io is being sunset, it basically means the staff at Microsoft can focus on a single editor (Microsoft recently acquired GITHUB which produced atom.io).

In the 2019 Developers Survey, Visual Studio Code was also ranked No. 1, with 50% of the 87,000 respondents using it. In the 2021 Developers Survey, Visual Studio Code continues to be ranked No. 1, with 70% of the 82,000 respondents using it, rising to 74.48% of the 71,010 responses in the 2022 survey.
