Notepad++ is a text editor, and source code editor, with a myriad of advanced features. Notepad++ was created by Don Ho and is written in C++. Notepad++ also supports more than 50 languages so it gets a golden seal of multilingual capability. Overall Notepad++ should be capable and accessible to anyone.
Let us start off with supported languages. The supported languages by Notepad++ are: Ada, asp, Assembly, AutoIt, Batch, C, C++, C#, Caml, Cmake, COBOL, CoffeeScript, CSS, D, Diff, Flash ActionScript, Fortran, Gui4CLI, Haskell, HTML, INNO, Java, Javascript, JSP, KiXtart, LISP, Lua, Makefile, Matlab, MS-DOS, INI file, NSIS, Normal Text File, Objective-C, Pascal, Perl, PHP, PostScript, PowerShell, Properties, Python, R, Resource file, Ruby, Shell, Scheme, Smalltalk, SQL, TCL, TeX, Visual Basic, VHDL, Verilog, XML, YAML. That is quite the mouthful but also very impressive for a text editor.
The editor also features some things for efficiency like a tabbed-document interface, drap-and-drop, multiple clipboards, spell checker, etc. The editor also officially supports 21 plugins by default now. Other popular plugins are Emmet. It’s features as a source code editor are awesome including auto-completion, syntax highlighting, project manager, shortkey mapping, and even marco recording.
Notepad++ hides some easter eggs such as highlighting special names like “Darth Vadar” which opens a new tab with a quote from them.
